(More customer reviews)There are both good and bad aspects to this knife.As for the good, it does slice the gyro cones very quickly and uniformaly.It will save you in meat by making nice thin slices and time by doing it quickly.It is also rather easy to disassmenble and clean.
As for the bad, it is relatively heavy. The product description says 8 lbs.That may include the power pack, but the cutter itself weighs at least 5lbs.Also the design is ackward.You need to keep pressure on a button near the bottom of the unit for the motor to work.I'm sure this is a safety design to keep your hand away from the cutting blade but it makes the cutter much more difficult to use.Also, the metal cutter is difficult to grip once it gets gyro juice (grease) on its body.Now for the worst part, I don't know about the plastic cutter, but the metal one becomes extremely hot with any extended use.Keep in mind that blade runs at a pretty high RPM and the motor is encased in the metal unit that you are holding.There is no visible vent for the heat.This, combined with the heat from the gyro machine makes it impossible to hold the cutter in your bare hand for more than a few seconds of cutting.If you are constantly cutting, you have to wear a heavy canvas/leather glove.
Overall, if you are going to use this for constant cutting (like at a festival), be prepared to have a tired arm and a hot and cramped hand.Although your cuts will come out very nice.It is probably best suited for a restaurant where gyro is not the main dish.Such a restaurant, however, could probably find a cheaper electric knife to fit its needs just as well.
